11.6-Inch Widescreen Display

The 11.6-inch LED-backlit display (1366 x 768 pixels) presents true 16:9 aspect ratio with high-def resolution and fast 8ms (millisecond) response time for high-quality media playback as well as increased readability in low-light conditions. And the LED backlight technology is 33 percent more energy efficient than standard CCFL LCD screens.

Power-Sipping Processor

Newly designed from the ground up, the Intel Atom Z520 uses a 45nm (nanometer) design structure with new hafnium-infused circuitry--which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors--to conserve even more energy and give you more time away from the wall outlet. The Intel Atom Z520 provides a 1.3 GHz CPU speed with a 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 512 KB L2 cache--which uses just 2 watts of power. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) It supports Intel's 64-bit computing architecture, which can allow the use of extended virtual and physical memory with compatible 64-bit software, as well as Intel's Hyper-Threading technology for speedier multitasking.

The Multi-Gestured Acer Aspire One

A Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad enables you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more.

The TouchPad can also be disabled with a one-touch button, eliminating accidental cursor movement with palms and wrists when using an external mouse.

Just got my new Acer today !

I had been looking at the Acer Aspire w/10" screen for ages, and just so happened to look at Acer's website and saw this one with the 11.6" screen and decided based on such positive reviews on the other model, to get this one.
(Sucks that I had already ordered the leather case for the 10" model in advance, so it doesn't fit this one)

Although the specs clearly state that it comes with Windows XP, the product information talks about Vista as if it is what it comes with. It is not, but that's OK, I like XP anyway.

It's a very slick looking machine. Small and compact at only an inch thick and very lightweight, but sturdy. It is not a flimsy machine by no means.

Nice bright display, very good resolution on the web cam, and everything is very easy to use and configure, even if you are a first timer.
I had mine out of the box and connected to the wireless signal in my house, and my Sprint wireless card (USB) in about 5 minutes.

At first the volume of the built in speakers seems low..just adjust the built in EQ to give it a little more boost. Having Dolby 5.1 audio output more than makes up for that
Not enough of an issue to take any marks off.

I also ordered an IOGear Blue Tooth adapter IOGear Blue tooth USB Micro Adapter (GBU421) for $16 so that I can add as many peripherals as I want without worrying about the only 3 USB ports, and a Blue Tooth Headset Motorola H800 Black Licorice BT Headset to use for video conferencing. Some models come Blue Tooth ready. This particular one, unless I am doing something wrong, needs an adapter.

I contemplated how inconvenient it would be not to have a drive for installation disks, but just about all peripheral makers have installation software and drivers available freely for download from their sites, so problem solved.

This seems to be the perfect little machine, great for what I need it for, and just perfect if you don't want to be lugging around a big ole laptop to every meeting, class or coffee shop.

This is waayy cooler !

As I said, I highly recommend it and will be recommending it on my site as well. A very nice machine at a great price.
Fantastic little machine

I just got this and I am really impressed. The chassis is well built and sturdy but not bulky. It is very comfortable sitting on my lap. it doesnt heat up or feel heavy. The Screen is the best part. it is substantially bigger and higher resolution than the other netbooks I have seen. You can zoom from the mouse pad but I am used to tiny fonts so I prefer hi-res and see more on the screen. But I played with the zoom and it redraws the screen quite fast. The keyboard feels good, but takes getting used to if you use a desktop. There isnt much bloat-ware, although I've heard that complaint. Web-surfing is pretty fast. I wish I had the 8-hour one though.

I dont find this to be a fingerprint magnet as some have said, but maybe because my hands are clean.:-) The hi-gloss screen also takes some getting used to. It is very sharp but the reflection can be annoying. So far, I dont have much to gripe about. The fan is quiet as is the Hard drive. I will pop in a 2 Gb stick to juice the performance a bit. I wish it had Bluetooth so I dont have to use a USB port for it. But it costs just a few bucks these days. Its more about the USB port than anything. I'll come back in a few weeks and give an update.

OK-UPDATE- I used this to VPN to my work. I was amazed at how good it was. OK. I had to download and install java and bunch of other stuff, which takes a long time. Yes, Microsft updates take forever to install. BUt anyways, I vpned to my work, where I have lots of stuff, and this netbook passed with flying colors! And I havent upgrade the memory yet. My IBM laptop which is a Core2Duo performs marginally better.

Now I have to add that the keyboard is a bit mushy. The touch pad is ok. I dont use it much. I still prefer a mouse. But the "zoom" feature on the touch pad is good. Like an iPod.
love it

Keyboard is slightly Larger than the keyboard on my BIG laptop! So light I can carry it anywhere. Does everything I want it to. Plenty of power. Battery life long enough to go to meetings.
