I received the MSI U123-003 Wind Netbook one day ahead of time. The packaging was in excellent condition. Checked all accessories included and they were complete. Turned ON the netbook and everything loaded in two hours. Configured my WIFI and I am able to surf the internet and load the current updates. Tried the keyboard, mouse pad, sound, display brightness, Web Cam, and Blutooth. Everything works fine. The display was really nice. The keypads are just fine for people with average size of hands. The battery was excellent, with more than six hoours or power. The only add thing is when you insert the netbook inside the carrying case, the thing has a little bump shape because of the battery. For the price and all its feature, I would say it is a great deal. Drivers can be downloaded on line, support is pretty easy on MSI web site. This is a must see and must have for high schoolers. I owned a Clevo D901C, a gaming beast, and I would say the MSI is a GREAT PRODUCT to own. If you replace the wireless card with a half mini card MC8792, you're all set for the 3G connection with AT&T or Verizon.
Updated/08-28-09. Installed vista business. I was surprise that my drivers were not updated with vista install disc. At first I got worried because almost all my drivers were not functioning. The bad part, the drivers on the MSI web site is only for XP. It was good that my wireless was working and I updated my windows, and windows updated my drivers automatically. Everything is working now except for the easy face. I guess not all can be updated. I tried the other versions in MSI, but it didn't work. I bought an extra battery (6 cell) for light usage and it is giving me four hours of operation. I am upgrading my wifi card to include a wimax (intel 5350 half mini card). I'll update this review once I get the chance to play with it. Great toy. Got another one for my relative and she is enjoying it. Installed a plain transparency sheet on the display and it gives that glossy look (note: if you try putting one, be careful not to press the display too hard. Also, there's no need to disassemble the frame. Just slide the transparncy sheet on the sides and it will do the trick).
Updated/09-01-09. Intel 5350 half mini card worked fine. Wimax has very few coverage, make sure to check with the service provider to avoid misunderstandings. So far, the netbook is great with 2 giga bytes ram. Windows index is at 2.7. |
Very happy with this netbook

Seems to be a great laptop
When upgrading the ram you have to remove all the screws from the bottom, there is one that is hidden under a white ("you will void the warranty") warning sticker that is the only screw that is hidden, but once the screws are removed the bottom comes off pretty easily and replacing the ram is a 5 minute job.
Runs the included Windows XP very well - I also installed the Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix in a dual boot with the Windows XP and have to say that the Ubuntu works really well.
keyboard is comfortable and overall the machine seems sturdy and quiet.
Screen is really bright and nice.
Battery life is very extended.
I would recommend this to others. |
What a little machine!

This is my first review on Amazon, but one I personally wanted to write for those teetering on the edge of buying a netbook (and specifically this netbook).
After months (literally) of reviewing every netbook under the sun from the Asus, to the Samsung, I finally decided on this computer. Let me tell you the reasons why, as I am sure they are the same ones mulling over in your mind.
* Need the 9+ hours of battery life. I looked at Asus and Samsung, both which get great battery life, but they didn't have the 9 cell battery. This MSI computer does have that "bump" at the back, but it is a GREAT thing to have. I can't imagine not having my keyboard slanted, it makes typing SO much easier. I have been getting 10+ hours on the battery, when optimized.
* Need a computer with 92%+ keyboard size. I have decently big hands, and I didn't want to not be able to type on my new netbook, otherwise the point of having one is lost. This keyboard is great. One criticism is that the period key (as mentioned by another reviewer) is a bit smaller than the rest. Not a big deal, but one worth mentioning, although I couldn't say it was a deal breaker.
* Screen: You need the biggest screen you can get. This MSI offers one of the biggest and best screens available. It uses low power and displays great video.
* Build: The Samsung almost got my vote on this one, but I decided to try MSI, and I am happy I did. I don't' have both sitting in front of me at the same time but the build of the MSI is great in my opinion. No creaky keyboards, or cheap items on the MSI that I can tell.
* Mousepad: No issues with the mousepad, it is pretty much regular size, maybe a bit smaller. Downloaded new syp. drivers and it works perfect with scrolling.
Overall this is a great computer, long battery life, solid build and very stylish! I would definitely recommend this computer to anyone, without hesitation. |

| This laptop was excellent and worked really well as being portable and light. I took this laptop on a vacation and it came in handy as to the package size and the ease of use of the laptop. I also upgrade my laptop to 2GB 800MHz. The performance on this was excellent. The only thing I did not like was the comma and the period key are very close together due to the size of the button but the rest of the key was perfect. |
Great product

The netbook was a great buy, not only it is very lightweight but powerful enough to most activities including running Windows 7. Mind that I didn't upgrade memory or disk yet.
PROS:
- Very light
- Confortable keyboard for a 10" netbook, it takes a while to get used, don't try typing in the dark ;)
- Fast
- Can run on batteries for a very long time
- Runs Ubuntu 9.04 and Windows 7 well
- Silent
CONS:
- Could come with a larger hard drive (can be replaced, not a big con)
- Could come with more RAM (also can be replaced, most people do)
- 9-cell battery won't fit in the case shipped with the netbook |
