Install Windows on netbooks

The netbooks, also called portable or ultraportable, have invaded more and more market. These small, lightweight computer function like traditional computers, but have not joined the integrated optics for obvious reasons of space.

When purchasing a netbook, which it is manufactured by Asus, Acer, MSI, Toshiba, we bundle the installation CD of Windows XP.
This article explains how to reinstall Windows XP and how to overcome the difficulties and limitations of the Netbook.

1) Install Windows with the external optical drive

The most simple to install Windows on netbooks is to use external optical drive. By setting this device as a boot device, simply insterire the operating system CD, boot the netbook and follow the onscreen instructions.
Purchasing a CD player, external DVD is recommended compact and possibly self-sustaining. It ‘obvious that in addition to the Windows installation CD should also have the drivers for netbooks and updates Windows Service Pack can be downloaded free from the network.

To install Windows on netbooks with the external optical drive, you must first connect to the mini-notebook using the USB plug. 1) Install Windows with the USB stick

If you do not have a physical CD-DVD and want to install (or reinstall) Windows on a netbook solution can be to use a USB stick for less than 2 GB.

1: Transfer files to install Windows from your PC to the pen

To transfer the files on the USB key to install Windows, you need a PC with CD / DVD and the Windows operating system.
Create a folder named “WinXP” inside it and copy all the files in the Windows XP disk.
Downloaded from the network and unzip the USB Multiboot 10. Inside the folder, double click on fileUSB_MultiBoot_10.cmd.
At this point you start a DOS window, press any key, connect the USB stick into your computer and then press the “P” followed by “ENTER” to select the first option, labeled “PeToUSB – FAT Format — Max 2GB.
Screen Windows opens the program window “PeToUSB” which is responsible for preparing the USB stick format and install Windows.
Make sure that the program the path of your USB stick “Destination Drive,” is correct. Enable the checkboxes “Enable Disk Format”, “Quick Format” and “Enable LBA (FAT 16X)” then click on “Start” button.
After the formatting process, press the button “Close” to return to the DOS window open above and in the meantime changed.
In this step, you must tell the program MultiBoot which folder are the installation files for Windows XP, so they can be stored on the USB pen drive.
Option # 1 allows for the path to the folder “WinXP” created at the beginning.
The next step opens a window where you can already declare the parameters that the Windows installer will ask during installation. If you press Cancel the parameters are entered at a later time and returns to the DOS window.
Within the DOS window, press “2″ followed by ENTER and select the location of the newly formatted USB stick.
Returning again to the DOS window type “3″ and Enter to start copying the installation files on the USB pen drive. After the transfer process, press any key to exit the program.

2: Install Windows from USB pen drive

Make sure the USB pen drive containing the Windows installation is inserted into the USB port of the Netbook.
Start the netbook and access the BIOS, set “USB” as the boot device. Save the settings and restart the netbook.
At this point will be proposed at a screen with 4 options. Select the first option with the arrow keys and press ENTER. Once this procedure, the computer will boot again and will be again the same screen with 4 options.
At this point, select options 2 and 3 to continue with copying files.
Completed this step, the installation of Windows should be completed and the computer should work perfectly.
To have a fully functional Netbook now install the drivers provided with your computer.
