Ubuntu 9.04 on Eee PC 1008HA: Making the WiFi
ByI just read of problems in recognizing the wireless adapter of the EEA PC 1008HA Seashell with Ubuntu 9.04. Although the netbook is not yet available in our country (matter of hours anyway), who should have such problems might find the few commands that follow.
Need to install the package compat-wireless from Ubuntu repositories. Once installed Ubuntu 9.04 (perhaps using a USB stick with UNetbootin prepared) you can connect the EeePC 1008HA to the Internet using an Ethernet network cable (or a USB wireless key recognized by the operating system).
This done, from the terminal, you first need to proceed with the upgrade of the system:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
and then restart the netbook. Still, always from the terminal, you must install the package linux-backports-modules-jaunty:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-jaunty
and make one last restart.
About WiFi card has been issued an updated system BIOS that improves its performance (it seems that the first models on the market have any problems with the draft n). All users who receive the netbook this week (perhaps those who have already bought in advance) is advised to check the BIOS version installed and, if so, proceed with the upgrade.
